Cairo, Egypt [November 2025] – Continuing its journey of cultural collaboration and contemporary craftsmanship, Kahhal 1871 announces the unveiling of The Divine Collection in partnership with Shaikha Al Sulaiti, to be revealed at an exclusive private viewing at Studio 7, Doha, on November 11th, 2025.
Rooted in shared values of heritage, artistry, and innovation, The Divine Collection transforms cultural symbols into expressions, each piece telling its own story through form and texture. The collection features four area rugs and a runner, alongside a distinctive prayer rug design created to be experienced in pairs. Each prayer rug takes ninety days to craft, embodying precision, patience, and devotion. Entirely hand-knotted and handmade, every piece carries the human touch, a testament to craftsmanship that transforms artistry into connection and elevates design into meaning.
Bridging the legacy of Egyptian rug-making with the architectural sensitivity of Qatari design, the collection represents a meeting point between two creative languages. Every thread carries the precision of Kahhal’s century-old craftsmanship and the spiritual geometry of Shaikha Al Sulaiti’s contemporary vision. Together, they explore how tradition can be not only preserved, but reinterpreted, inviting reflection, connection, and communion in a modern world.
Each design within The Divine Collection carries symbolic meaning, some rooted in tradition, others in spirituality. A defining feature of the collection is its discreet modular connection system, allowing any rug to join seamlessly with another. This modular design enables endless combinations, from runners to area rugs, expanding elegantly for larger rooms and majlis settings, a physical and symbolic expression of unity and shared purpose.
In the prayer rugs, every detail holds intention. Six stars line each side, placed on seven interlinking motifs symbolizing the seven heavens, with an eighth link representing the gates of heaven. When connected, the stars align, a poetic reflection of harmony in togetherness.
For Mohamed El Kahhal, “Divine Connection is a celebration of what binds our region beyond borders, it is a shared sense of spirituality, artistry, and heritage. Our collaboration with Shaikha Al-Sulaiti brings together Qatari design sensibility and Egyptian craftsmanship in their purest forms. Through every texture and detail, we wanted to express the sacred dialogue between human creation and divine inspiration, a balance that defines the true essence of design in the Middle East.”
Shaikha Al Sulaiti envisions a ritual space where strangers become community through shared practice, a message that resonates now more than ever. In divided times, these rugs remind us of divine connection.
For Shaikha, the collection embodies a deeper cultural message. “The collection draws inspiration from the timeless teachings of our Arab heritage, the belief in love, unity, and strength through togetherness,” she says. “The prayer rug captures this essence, serving as a symbol of shared humanity and harmony.”
In collaboration with Kahhal 1871, whose rich heritage and artistry honor these same ideals, the collection becomes a dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression, weaving together the sacred and the modern, the personal and the collective.
The private viewing, “A Craftsman’s Language, Spoken Anew,” will bring together Doha’s leading cultural figures, artists, and design voices for an intimate unveiling of this collaboration, a testament to the power of craft as connection.
