Through the use of parametric designs, this passionate architect is producing miracles.

Décor Lab, a Kolkata-based interior and exterior designing firm, has made a significant impact in the industry with its exceptional designs. Let’s delve into the story behind the creation of this remarkable venture.

Décor Lab was established in 1993 by Rajdip Sinha and Raja Sinha, co-founders of the company. Since its inception, the firm has excelled in gracefully designing residential and commercial properties, earning a reputation for its exquisite work. With around 500 projects under its belt and a diverse clientele from all over India, Décor Lab has become known for its creative and glamorous designs that cater to the specific needs of clients.

The company boasts a team of 275 members who are dedicated to reviving home and office interiors with best-in-class services and furnishings. Rajdip Sinha, one of the co-founders, emphasizes their commitment to understanding the client’s budget and providing unique design ideas to transform their dream spaces. Décor Lab has successfully executed numerous projects for corporate clients, builders, individuals, and public undertakings. With a specialized team of top interior designers, they have the ability to give any space a wonderful look.

Décor Lab operates based on the philosophy of holistic and sensitive context-driven spatial relationships between spaces and people. They aim to encourage social cohesion and cultivate responsive architecture. Rajdip, the Design Director and co-founder, is a passionate professional who finds joy and comfort in his daily work. While he may not have excelled academically during his student days, he thrived in the creative aspects of the curriculum, sparking his desire to work in the creative field. The inspiration to pursue a career in the creative industry stemmed from the idea that the art one creates can endure forever, even when the person themselves may no longer be present. Décor Lab was initially founded and established by Rajdip’s father, Raja Sinha, as an interior design firm. However, Rajdip later incorporated the firm’s architecture department and introduced the concept of parametric design, which was relatively less known in West Bengal and India.

Rajdip proudly reveals that Décor Lab is currently responsible for designing and managing over 30-40 sites across India, with plans to expand internationally in the future. He believes that while architecture was traditionally considered a necessity to provide shelter and protection, it has now evolved into a luxury. In their projects, they strive to adhere to the principles of green architecture, constructing environmentally friendly structures.

Décor Lab offers comprehensive, high-end, and bilingual design services for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects, serving as a one-stop solution. Their services encompass everything from flooring and space planning to custom furniture and fixtures, providing inspiration and managing installation. The firm adopts a design-thinking approach for each project, leveraging their in-house expertise and experience.

They enjoy experimenting with different materials and adapting to new technologies and trends to deliver better and more innovative designs. Additionally, Décor Lab has ambitious plans to expand and enhance its design studio by launching new verticals, such as the BIM department studio, the art and artist department, a metaverse-focused vertical for designers, and an intern project activity vertical in their studio.

Rajdip finds inspiration in architect Zaha Hadid, a pioneering figure from Baghdad. He admires her as a modern-day superwoman who utilized parametric and computational design tools and methods in her structures. Rajdip shares a similar interest in this area. Being a woman from a developing country who excelled against all odds, Hadid’s achievements are truly inspiring to him.

During his entrepreneurial journey, Rajdip faced a few challenges. Clients were initially hesitant to entrust their sites to a relatively young professional. Coordinating with contractors and clients also proved challenging, as they often showed reluctance to experiment.
